     Alphonse Francis Thering was born on 4 October 1933 at Wisconsin. He was the son of Joseph Leo Thering and Rose V. Ederer. Alphonse Francis Thering died on 21 December 2004 at Wisconsin at age 71; Alphonse Francis Thering, 71, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at his home from heart disease and non small cell bronchial-alveolar cancer surrounded by his family. He was born Oct. 4, 1933, in Spring Green. He graduated from Spring Green High School in 1951 and Madison Business College in 1953. He married Bernice Stachovak May 25, 1957, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Wausau.
He worked for the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, Oscar Mayer and American Dairy Association. For 41 years, he enjoyed working at H&R Block as satellite director and later as franchise owner. Alphy loved spending time with his family, and he will be remembered for his kind heart, countless hugs and warm smile. He found great pleasure in playing Scrabble, euchre and basketball with his grandchildren; fishing, golfing, cheering on the Packers and Badgers; and retelling the story of his 1953 game-winning basket.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice; his children, Jeff (Lu Ann) of Waunakee, Kathy (Sarah Mondol) of Reeseville, Kristi Thering-Tuschen (Larry Tuschen) of Sun Prairi, and Martha Johannsen (Steve) of Maple Bluff; his grandchildren, Jacki, T.J., Rebecca and Luke Thering of Waunakee, Halee, Sadie, Tessy and Libbi Tuschen of Sun Prairie, and Joshua and Emma Hermsdorf of Maple Bluff; and his siblings, Sr. Josalia (Marie) of La Crosse, Florence Kraemer of Plain, Dorothy Hanson (Leonard) of Sherwood, Ore., Fred of Madison, Roseann Beverley of Freeport, Ill., Joann Nachreiner (Bob) of Spring Green and Leo of Corpus Christi, Texas. He is preceded in death by his son, Gary; three brothers, Harlan, Joseph and Louis; and his parents, Rose (Ederer) and Joseph L. Thering.

A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus St. in Sun Prairie, and Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 434 N. Main St., Cottage Grove. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's with Monsignor Raymond Kertz presiding. Burial will take place in Highland Memory Garden cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to UW Clinical Cancer Research, Diabetes Association, American Heart Association or St. Patrick's Parish Nurse Program.

Oct. 15, 1907, at Edson to John Berres after which the couple settled on a farm in the Town of Gibson. Her husband preceded her in death June 1, 1957.
She was a member of St. Mary Rosary Society. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Clarence Schulz, Miss Leona Berres and Mrs. Donald Henrickson of Two Rivers, Mrs. Helen Lins of Columbus, Wis., and Mrs. Paul Greene of Green Bay; six sons, Leonard of Rt.1, Denmark, Orman of Batavia, Ill., Cornelius of St. Nazianz, John of Madison, Joseph of Manitowoc and
Raymond Berres of Rt. 2, Manitowoc; two sisters, Mrs Rose Thering of Spring Green, Wis., and Mrs. Anna Etten of Boyd, Wis; a brother, Jack Ederer of Plain, Wis., 43 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.
